Chinese Herbs for Men's Health

In Chinese herbal medicine, most of what falls under men's health is organised around the kidney — not the organ as Western medicine describes it, but a broader traditional concept covering vitality, stamina, reproductive function and how well a person holds up over time. This collection holds around 30 formulas, teas, tonics and topical preparations built on that framework.

The Two Traditional Directions

Kidney formulas split into two families, and taking the wrong one is the most common mistake. Kidney yang formulas are warming, aimed at low drive, cold extremities and fatigue — Golden Cabinet (Jin Gui Shen Qi Tang) is the classic. Kidney yin formulas are cooling and moistening, aimed at night sweats, restlessness and dryness — Rehmannia Six and Rehmannia Eight sit here. If a warming formula makes you feel worse, that is usually the signal you needed the other family.

What's In This Collection

  • Vitality tonics — Golden Cabinet (Jin Gui Shen Qi Tang), Strong Man Bao, Lycium Fruit Formula (Huan Shao Tan Tang), horny goat weed (Yin Yang Huo), maca root.
  • Prostate and urinary — Kai Kit Wan, Kai Kit Pill, saw palmetto berry, stinging nettle.
  • Daily tonics — American ginseng root tea, longan fruit, Bojenmi tea.
  • Topical preparations — Suifan's Kwang Tze Solution, Indian God Lotion, Royal Dragon spray.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Golden Cabinet (Jin Gui Shen Qi Tang)?

One of the oldest formulas in the Chinese pharmacopoeia, dating to the Han dynasty. It is Rehmannia Six with two warming herbs added, and it is the reference formula for what the tradition calls kidney yang — traditionally used for fatigue, cold sensitivity and low vitality. It is warming, so it does not suit everyone.

Which herbs are used for prostate health in Chinese medicine?

Kai Kit Wan is the traditional Chinese formula most associated with it. From the Western side, saw palmetto berry and stinging nettle root are the two most commonly used botanicals. Both traditions are represented in this collection.

Do I need a warming or cooling formula?

As a rough guide: if you run cold, feel tired and sluggish, and prefer warm drinks, the warming family is more likely to fit. If you run hot, sleep poorly, and get night sweats, the cooling family is. This is a simplification — ask our team or see a practitioner if you are unsure.

Are these safe with blood pressure or heart medication?

Several herbs in this category, including ginseng and horny goat weed, can affect blood pressure and interact with cardiovascular medication. Do not combine them with prescription medication without talking to your physician.

When should I see a doctor?

Urinary changes, erectile difficulty and persistent fatigue can all signal conditions that need medical diagnosis — including cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Get assessed rather than self-managing these with herbs alone.
